We Are Christians
Why was Jesus crucified? He offended people.
Why were the apostles martyred? They offended people.
If we're willing to trust in and follow Christ, we will likely cause offence, we've chosen the Christian worldview.
Scripture itself is offensive to those who have not placed their faith in Christ.
The modern Christian desperately lacks courage.
We've been drowning in talk about "winsomeness."
Endless chatter about "contextualization."
Constant demands for "relevance."
But courage? Nothing
Yet courage is what makes effective ministry possible. Real cultural engagement. Real evangelism. Real apologetics. Without it, winsomeness becomes cowardice dressed up in theological verbiage. Contextualization becomes compromise with a seminary diploma.
Yes, we must strive to be winsome. We must seek to be relevant. We must be culturally engaged Christians now, to reach this world.
Polish will not make us effective. We must have backbone.
We must have the strength and determination to speak complete truth in a culture that accepts partial lies.
As Jesus warned: "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you" (John 15,18). Hatred and offence are the world's natural response to uncompromising truth.
That's not just ministry. That's New Testament Christianity.
